2009 Dress Giveaway is Almost Here.....

Operation Glam Chic is gearing up for yet another wonderful year.....



Operation Glam Chic, the ingenious idea created by entrepreneur/writer/philanthropist Kishana L. Holland with the intent on making a Prom Dream come true.....


The prom is one of the largest social events of a teenager's high school years. This rite of passage is expensive, and although most teens hope to attend the event, they are often unable to meet the costs to participate. Operation Glam Chic aims to provide high school girls, with formal dresses and accessories to attend their prom with style and confidence while instilling an appreciation for community service and the importance of giving back.
In two short years, we have provided 200+ young ladies within the Bedford Stuyvesant community of Brooklyn with formal attire for their memorable event.



What types of donations does Operation Glam Chic accept?
Operation Glam Chic accepts donations of new and gently worn formal wear (especially sizes 16+) that we use to outfit disadvantaged high school girls for their prom. Our goal is to boost the confidence and self-esteem of the girls we serve by making sure they look and feel good on prom night. Therefore, we are very selective about the dresses we put on display.

Please observe the following standards, if you are considering donating a dress:

• Dresses should be no more than five years old, dry-cleaned (free of stains/odors), rips, broken zippers/straps.
  


• Dresses must be a style that a teenage girl would wear. A good litmus test is to ask a young person that you know.
  


• We also accept the following accessories: jewelry, handbags, hair clips.
  


• We DO NOT accept: make-up, shoes/hosiery, wedding dresses, cocktail dresses, undergarments, 2-piece suits, casual/athletic wear, or boys’/men’s clothing. How can a girl get a prom dress?

How can someone get a dress??

We make it simple. The Prom Dress Giveaway is usually held the first Saturday in May so that girls can get their dresses early and not stress. We publish the dates and locations of the boutiques on our website and we send flyers to local Brooklyn high schools and youth organizations. Girls are encouraged to make an appointment, but walk-ins are also welcome. All we require is a picture ID and proof of high school enrollment.

We are looking for Donations of clean, stylish, and appropriate Bridesmaid or Prom Dresses. Dresses of all sizes are very much appreciated. Accessories and make up may also be donated.

Founder & Coordinator, Kishana Holland enlisted the assistance of generous donations and an outstanding team of volunteers to create a priceless memory in a significant milestone in the life of a young woman.

Operation Glam Chic hosted our Second Annual “Boutique Style” Prom Dress Giveaway on Sunday May 4, 2008 at The Brooklyn Masonic Temple in Brooklyn, New York.

Each young lady had the opportunity to meet with a personal shopper who assisted them with selecting a dress and provided them with tips and advice regarding color selection, make-up and accessories. The participants were treated to a dynamic workshop by etiqutte coach extrodinaire, Nicole Cesar-Mitchell.

Young women had the chance to win awesome door prizes such as, complimentary make-up, hair styling & make-up gift certificates, spa services and so much more…..
